- In what ways has the author's life experiences influence his or her story?
- What elements of his/her life are included in the book? Why do you think the author chose to include these in the story?
- What aspects of the author's life are not included in the book? Why do you think he/she did not include them?
- Overall, do you consider this book to be authentic? Why or Why not?
The author's experiences during the Holocaust greatly influenced his memoir, the Pianist. He obviously included the events that occurred during the war, and he made a point to describe the pain of losing his family during the war. Although some aspects of his music career was included in the book, Szpilman did not go into detail on his career before or after the war. I think he decided against including them because it was irrelevant to the topic. I think that this book was authentic because all of the accounts was things that the author himself encountered during the Holocaust.
