A German soldier restrained from killing Szpilman because he was a musician. What does this say about German Nazi's?

To me, the answer is not clear. A possibility could have been that Szpilman was not associated with the war so there was no need for him to die. Another possibility is that the German Nazi's enjoyed music. Because they liked music, they would not want to kill a musician.

  1. I am not exactly sure why the German Nazi did not kill Szpillman because he was a musician. I feel like he might not have done it because music might bring a good feeling to them. Also it could be because it could make the Jewish people happy and make them believe they can survive through it, using propaganda. I think what it says about German Nazi's is they are either really cunning or might have a little heart left.

  2. There are several things this says to me. One of them is that the Nazi's must have valued music. Otherwise, Szpliman would have been killed. It also says that maybe not all Nazi's believed in what they were doing. If anyone found out that they showed this mercy, they would certainly be killed. It shows that not all of them were the apathetic, horrible people that the world thinks they are.
