How do you think the author copes with the tragedies that happened to him/her?

I think that the author copes with the tragedies by thinking about something else and replacing the bad memories with good ones. Because of the young age of my character, I think this would have been easy to accomplish.  Next, when my character is with her friends she is very happy. Being surrounded by happy events and people would also help cope with the tragedies.

  1. I think it would be really hard to deal with something like this. I think that the author had to cope with it by using his family for support. I also think it helped that he wrote a book about it because that way he could get his story out. It also must have helped by talking to people he knew about it to share stories and just be happy that they survived.

  2. I think that writing this book to tell his story let him cope with the tragedies that he encountered during the Holocaust. Unlike many of other survival stories of the holocaust, Szpilman's book was written just shortly after the war had ended. Sharing his story with others so soon after it happened helped ease his pain. I also think that music helped Szpilman cope with his tragedies a great deal. Performing, and more importantly, composing, probably served as an emotional outlet for him.
